Call For Papers

SIDNEY AT KALAMAZOO, MAY 11-13, 2023
58th International Congress on Medieval Studies (In-Person)

This year the International Sidney Society is sponsoring two open sessions and invites papers on any and all topics related to Philip Sidney, Mary Sidney Herbert, Lady Mary Wroth, the Sidney family or their extensive British and Continental network, inclluding Fulke Greville, Samuel Daniel, William Herbert, Alberico Gentili, Veronica Franco, Vittoria Colonna, George Buchanan, Philippe Duplessis-Mornay, Étienne de La Boétie, Giordano Bruno, Justus Lipsius, and others.

We encourage submissions by newcomers, including graduate students, and by established scholars of all ranks.
According to rules established by the Congress, those submitting abstracts for one session may not submit abstracts for other sessions in the same year. Papers submitted should not have been read elsewhere nor be scheduled for publication in the near future.

The process for submitting abstracts has changed. Starting last year, abstracts are no longer emailed to the session organizer. Instead, all abstracts are submitted through the Congress's Proposal Portal:
https://wmich.edu/medievalcongress/call

Abstracts should be between 150 and 250 words; abstracts that outline an argument are preferred. Reading time for the completed paper must not exceed 20 minutes.

Deadlines
September 15, 2022 for abstracts
Graduate students and independent scholars are invited to apply for the International Sidney Society Award, a financial award for papers of merit, if they submit their completed paper by April 11, 2023.

Please direct questions and correspondence to: Joel B. Davis, jbdavis@stetson.edu.
