Human Factors in Augmented Reality Environments

Edited by Tony Huang, Leila Alem and Mark Livingston.


The use of AR technologies in various application systems has expanded rapidly in recent years. However, our understanding of this emerging technology in affecting humans socially, psychologically and physically is still limited. AR also poses unique challenges in system design and evaluation. Theories, design principles and evaluation methods specific to this emerging area are needed to keep up with of the advance in technologies of AR.

Very few quality books can be found addressing this subject specifically. This book aims to cover current state-of-the-art of research results and future directions in design and evaluation of AR systems. This book is an edited volume contributed by leading international experts in this field.

This volume includes surveys, theoretic discussions, design principles, evaluation methods, case studies and more. Applications of AR systems and human factors related to use of those systems are covered in this book as well. Research results from virtual/mixed reality (VR/MR) are also included when they are useful for AR.

Academics, students, engineers and consultants will find this book useful for both research and engineering purposes in this emerging area.
