Goal and Scope

The recent advent of the open source movement and service-oriented architectures has enabled new and interesting solutions for software retrieval. However, since most of these approaches have been developed and evaluated independently of each other, it is hard if not impossible to compare their performance and to provide practitioners with guidance on how to best use them in a given context.

Hence, this workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from various communities to collate innovative application scenarios for software search and retrieval and investigate effective ways of evaluating them. We especially welcome contributions that work towards a common baseline for a standard collection of software artifacts and benchmarks that can be used for future evaluation of software retrieval, reuse and maintenance approaches.
Software Search and Retrieval

The workshop is open for discussion on all topics related to the evaluation of software search and retrieval – especially those that facilitate component reuse, (web) service matching and software maintenance. Further topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Descriptions of all kinds of software (and service) search, retrieval and matching tools,
* usage scenarios for such tools,
* performed evaluations and innovative evaluation approaches for software search algorithms and systems,
* comparisons of software retrieval and reuse systems,
* empirical studies on the perceived performance of software retrieval systems,
* the creation of and experience with standard collections for the evaluation of software retrieval tools in various usage scenarios.

Submission Guidelines

Papers must be written in English and follow the proceedings template published on the workshop website (similar to the ACM format). We invite you to participate by choosing from the following two kinds of submissions:

* Regular (position) papers (up to 4 pages) that describe ongoing work, evaluations, preliminary and mature results as well as research ideas that challenge existing thought patterns and constraints.
* Short (position) papers (up to 2 pages) that describe innovative ideas or tool developments in the above areas.

Authors of accepted regular papers will be invited to present their work in “lightning talks” during the workshop with follow-up discussions. Short papers will be presented during a poster resp. demonstration session; attendance of the authors is desirable but not mandatory for short papers, posters should be sent to the organizers in this case. All accepted papers will be published and archived as a technical report of the University of Mannheim (with a DOI).
