Call For Papers

Dear Colleagues,

With the ever-increasing multitude of Internet of Things (IoT) devices permeating our daily lives, companies have unparalleled visibility into activities in homes and buildings. IoT technologies allow for the automation, personalization, and control of various aspects of smart homes and smart building environments. As householders, visitors, and workers are becoming more knowledgeable of the magnitude and potentially personal and sensitive nature of the data being collected and processed, ethics, privacy, and trust issues are emerging as barriers to wider user adoption of new services and experiences. Addressing these barriers is likely to be critical to making smart services for homes and buildings broadly appealing.

Although noteworthy progress has been made to address ethical, privacy, and trust issues in the development of smart services, existing solutions are still far from sufficient given the dynamic and evolving features of IoT technologies. This Special Issue of Sensors aims to bring together researchers in academia and industry working on privacy, trust, and data protection topics in the context of smart homes and smart buildings to share their latest accomplishments and research findings. We solicit high-quality original contributions, including, but not limited to, the topical areas listed below:

Novel architectures, concepts, and models for trustworthy smart homes and smart buildings;
Privacy-enhancing and transparency-enhancing technologies for smart homes and smart buildings;
Privacy-by-design mechanisms for smart homes and buildings;
Ethical considerations in the design of smart homes and buildings;
Vulnerability discovery and analysis for smart homes and buildings;
Threat modeling and risk assessment for smart homes and buildings;
Attack and attacker simulation for smart homes and buildings;
Trust and identity management for smart homes and buildings;
Access control models for smart homes and buildings;
Human factors in the privacy and security of smart homes and buildings.
