General information
The International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing ICIAP is organized every two years by the Italian group of researchers in pattern recognition (GIRPR), which is the Italian IAPR Member Society, with the aim to bring together researchers in image processing and pattern recognition from around the world.
The 16th edition of the conference is organized by the University of Bologna, Ravenna site. The main target of the ICIAP 2011, will be to provide a place in which the most recent approaches and goals in image analysis can be presented and discussed.
The scientific program of ICIAP 2011 will include four invited talks as well as contributions presented in single track oral and poster sessions. In addition, special, demo and contest sessions are planned.

Main topics
Main topics include:
Image analysis and processing (Segmentation, feature extraction and representation, shape and motion primitives, texture and color information, interactive image analysis and interpretation)
Vision and perception (Cognitive vision, active vision, spatial reasoning, 2D and 3D modeling, perceptual learning)
Pattern recognition (Statistical, syntactic and structural pattern recognition, machine learning and data mining, artificial intelligence and symbolic learning, feature reduction, classification and clustering, support vector machines and kernels)
Multimodal Interaction and Multimedia Processing (Multimodal interaction, multimedia analysis, indexing and retrieval, multimedia infrastructure).
Applications (Ambient intelligence and security, biomedicine, biometrics, cultural heritage, OCR and document analysis, acoustic fingerprint, mobile robots and visual navigation, network security, remote sensing and environment control, video surveillance and intelligent transport systems, visual inspection and quality control).

Tutorials, demo and contest sessions
Proposals of contests and of half-day tutorials can be submitted by November 30, 2010. Proposals of tutorials should include title and abstract, a detailed outline, background and potential target audience, biography of the presenter(s), bibliography supporting the proposal (e.g. a tutorial-level published article).
Accepted tutorials will be given on September 13th, 2011, provided that a minimum number of attendees is reached. As for the contests, goal of the competition is to compare different methodologies with a common experimental protocol and data set. Only contests receiving a reasonable number of expressions of interest, adequate to provide a significant report, will be discussed during the conference by presenting the results obtained by the contest participants.
Demo sessions are planned with the aim of presenting the latest results in image processing and pattern recognition technologies. Submission of proposals for demonstrations of software related to any areas of image processing and pattern recognition is due by February 15, 2011.

Paper Submission
Prospective contributors are encouraged to submit papers and to attend ICIAP 2011. Each paper will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. Accepted papers will be included in the ICIAP 2011 conference proceedings, which will be published by Springer (http://www.springer.com ) as two books in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series (LNCS). Authors of ICIAP 2011 papers can find complete instructions of how to format their ICIAP 2011 papers by visiting the LNCS web-site ( http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs ).
A template can be downloaded at this link: http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0 . The size of an ICIAP 2011 paper is limited to 10 pages. Authors can submit their papers on-line. Information is available by visiting the Springer Online Conference Service - OCS Website : http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-447109-0 .
The paper submission deadline is February 15, 2011.
