Call For Papers

------------------------------------------------------------------------
9th International Workshop on Finite-State Methods and Natural Language Processing

FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

Université François Rabelais Tours, Blois, France

July 12-15, 2011

http://ciaa-fsmnlp-2011.univ-tours.fr
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The International Workshop Series of Finite-State Methods and Natural
Language Processing (FSMNLP) is the premier forum of the ACL Special
Interest Group on Finite-State Methods (SIGFSM). It serves researchers
and practitioners working on

- natural language processing (NLP) applications or language resources,
- theoretical and implementation aspects, or
- their combinations

that have obvious relevance or an explicitly discussed relation to
Finite-State Methods in NLP.

*******
TOPICS

FSMNLP invites papers related to themes including but not limited to:

* NLP applications and linguistic aspects of finite-state methods
* Finite-state models of language
* Practices for building lexical transducers for the world's languages
* Specification and implementation of sets, relations and
multiplicities in NLP using finite-state devices
* Machine learning of finite-state models of natural language
* Finite-state manipulation software (with relevance to NLP)

*******
PREVIOUS EDITIONS

Eight FSMNLP workshops have been organised in the past in:
Pretoria (2009), Ispra (2008), Potsdam (2007), Helsinki (2005),
Budapest (2003), Helsinki (2001), Ankara (1998), Budapest (1996).

JOINT EVENT

16th International Conference on Implementation and Application
of Automata (CIAA 2011), July 13-16, Blois, France.

The CIAA and FSMNLP conferences have been important international
meetings for researchers and practitioners interested in various
aspects of finite-state tools. These two events, which deal with
complementary topics, will be, for the first time, organised jointly
in Blois, France in 2011.

CIAA is the premier annual conference for researchers, application
developers and users of automata-based systems. The CIAA series has
published significant papers describing the applications of finite
automata in parsing and compilers, logic, natural language processing,
pattern matching, database management and bioinformatics. The
conference also accepts papers that advance the state of the art in
the theoretical study of finite automata, regular expressions,
grammars and related formal models.

A goal of the conference is to provide additions and enhancements to
existing software systems that manipulate automata, regular
expressions, grammars, and related structures; examples of such
systems include AGL, AMoRE, ASTL, Automate, FADELA, FAdo, FinITE,
FIRE Station, FSM, Grail+, INR, JFLAP, MERLin, MONA, Nooj, TESTAS,
Turing's World, Unitex, Vaucanson, WFSC and Whale Calf.

*******
RELATED EVENTS

CIAA/FSMNLP 2010 will be organized shortly before two other conferences
on related subjects:
- DLT 2011 (July 19–22, Milan, Italy) and
- DCFS 2011 (July 25-27, Giessen, Germany).
These consecutive periods, as well as the European locations,
facilitate the attendance at all three conferences.

*******
IMPORTANT DATES

Submission Opening: February 2011
Submission Deadline: April 15, 2011
Notification: May 30, 2011
Camera-ready Version: June 10, 2011

Workshop Dates: July 12-15, 2011

*******
SUBMISSIONS

Papers should present original, unpublished research results.
Simultaneous submission to another venue with published proceedings
is prohibited. FSMNLP accepts three kinds of submissions:

- full papers (12 pages) reporting completed, significant research,

- short papers (6 pages) reporting ongoing work and partial results,

- interactive software demos and industrial presentations (6 pages).

All submissions are electronic and in PDF format via a web-based
submission server. Authors are encouraged to use Springer LNCS style
(Proceedings and Other Multiauthor Volumes) for LaTeX in producing the
PDF document. More information on this style can be found at:
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html

Information about the author(s) and other identifying information
such as
- obvious self-references (e.g., "We showed in [12] ...") and
- financial or personal acknowledgements
should be omitted in the submitted papers (whenever feasible)
since the review process will be double-blinded.

Submission will open with the second Call for Papers in February.

The papers and abstracts will be published in FSMNLP 2011 proceedings
and archived in the ACL Anthology. The publication of selected,
revised versions of accepted papers in a special journal issue is
planned.

FUNDS FOR CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

The ACCES program of the French Ministry of Research supports
invitations of researchers from Central and Eastern Europe to
conferences organised in France. Travel and accommodation expenses may
be covered. To apply, please, send your CV to the conference email
address accessible on the website.
