SYSTEM INTEGRATION ON AIRCRAFT AND SPACE/LAUNCH VEHICLES

This symposium addresses multidisciplinary and integration problems (subjects where separate disciplines interact in synergy). Papers are solicited in the fields of MDO (optimisation tools and strategies, sensitivity analysis, artificial intelligence), fluid-structure-GNC-thermal interaction, mission/trajectories, advanced or new concepts, actuators, energy storage (fuel cells), vehicle comfort (acoustics and vibration, air-conditioning); special sessions on on-going research programs (Clean Sky, SESAR) will be held.

FLIGHT PHYSICS FOR AIRCRAFT AND LAUNCH VEHICLES INCLUDING RE-ENTRY BODIES

This symposium covers all aspects of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics relevant to aeronautical and aerospace applications. This concerns not only external flows over aeronautical and space vehicles (e.g., wing aerodynamics) but also internal flows (e.g., inlet or nozzle aerodynamics). Topics range from basic research and development to applied studies, using experimental, theoretical, and/or advanced numerical methods, with a special focus on fundamental physical understanding. Papers are invited in the fields of low- and high-speed flows, unsteady aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, boundary layer transition, flow separation, flow instability, turbulence, vortex dynamics, shock interactions, plasma flows, MHD flows, flow control by energy deposition, flow control using MEMS and nanotechnologies, fluid/wall heat transfer, experimental diagnostics, aerodynamic measurements, advances in wind tunnel testing and ground test capabilities, in-flight/airborne testing, innovative aerodynamic configurations, aerodynamic optimization techniques, buffet and wing aerodynamics, advanced CFD tools, continuum methods for rarefied flows and real gas flow physics.

FLIGHT DYNAMICS, GNC AND AVIONICS FOR SPACE AND AERONAUTICAL APPLICATIONS

This symposium covers the applications of novel analytical, computational and experimental methods for the analysis and the prediction of the flight dynamics for aeronautical and space applications such as civil and military airplanes and helicopters, unmanned vehicles, launch vehicles, space transportation systems, automated planetary landers and entry probes. Papers are solicited in the fields of control, mission analysis and flight management, model based design, simulations and tests, navigation, digital avionics, data fusion and image processing for navigation, onboard decision and autonomy, fault detection and isolation, sensors, verification and validation technology, air traffic management, formation flight. Recent experiences (lessons learnt) in these fields are welcome.

STRUCTURES AND MATERIALS

This symposium addresses profound improvements that can be introduced in aerospace structures and engines through innovative materials, processing technologies, structural design and analysis. Massive introduction of fiber-reinforced organic composites has become a reality and the introduction of other composites is progressing in the engines. Papers are solicited in the fields of materials and technologies (metallic and composite), structural design including design principles, manufacturing and assembly of composite and metallic structures as well as structural dynamic/static analysis, fatigue and fracture, vibroacoustics, impact and shock response, aero-elastic design and testing methodologies under both static and dynamic loading. Service performance and life assessment, as well as morphing structures are also included.

PROPULSION PHYSICS FOR AIRCRAFT AND SPACE ENGINES

This symposium covers all aspects of airbreathing and space propulsion, spanning from new developments in engines and propellants to modeling and testing.

Topics range from basic research and development to applied studies, using experimental, theoretical and/or advanced numerical methods, with a special focus on fundamental physical understanding. Papers are solicited in the fields of airbreathing propulsion (alternative fuels, supersonic/hypersonic aircraft propulsion, scramjet/multimode ramjet, modified and combined cycles, pulsed detonation engines), launch vehicle propulsion (solid, liquid, gaseous, gel, and hybrid propellants) and in-space propulsion (chemical propulsion; electric thrusters; nuclear thermal and electric engines; solar radiation; beamed energy; micropropulsion; propellantless techniques; on-board power).

MINISYMPOSIA/WORKSHOPS

Persons willing to organize a minisymposium or workshop dedicated to special topics (e.g., LOx/methane combustion, flow separation, etc.) are invited to contact the concerned Symposium Chair.

TECHNICAL TOURS

Technical tours will be organised to visit the major R&D centers and Aerospace Industries of the Region. The tours will take place on Friday, July 8, 2011.
