Call For Papers | |||||||||||||||
The Sixth International Workshop on Self-Managing Database Systems (SMDB 2011) brings together researchers and practitioners in databases, machine learning and systems, to exchange and develop innovative ideas related to autonomic data management systems. SMDB 2011 will be a one-day workshop, co-located with IEEE ICDE 2011, where accepted papers are presented in an informal and interactive setting. Similar to previous years, the workshop will open with a keynote presentation from a prominent researcher in the area, and will conclude in a round-table discussion with a panel of experts. Participation in the workshop is not limited to authors of accepted papers.
Previous workshops of the SMDB series focused on core topics in self-managing databases like automated tuning and provisioning, automated problem diagnosis and recovery, and automated data protection and integration. SMDB 2011 will explore in addition emerging research areas such as cloud computing, database testing, multi-tenant databases and data-center administration, which require or could benefit from autonomic data management features. ** Topics of Interest ** Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: • Principles and architecture of autonomic data management systems • Self-* capabilities in databases and storage systems • Data management in cloud and multi-tenant databases • Autonomic capabilities in database-as-a-service platforms • Automated testing of data management systems • Automated physical database design and adaptive query tuning • Automated provisioning and integration • Automatic enforcement of information quality • Self-managing distributed / decentralized / peer-to-peer information systems • Monitoring and Diagnostics in data management systems • Policy Automation and Visualization for datacenter administration • User acceptance and trust of autonomic capabilities • Evaluation criteria and benchmarks for self-managing systems • Use cases and war stories on deploying autonomic capabilities ** Important Dates ** • Paper submissions due: Nov 24, 2010 (5pm Pacific Time) • Notification of acceptance: Dec 21, 2010 • Camera-ready papers due: January 8, 2011 • SMDB 2011 workshop: April 11, 2011 ** Paper Submission ** Authors are invited to submit original research contributions in English of up to 6 pages in IEEE camera-ready format (templates are available at the ICDE 2011 submission guidelines page). Only electronic submission in PDF format will be accepted. Authors of accepted papers will be encouraged to submit a full paper of up to 8 pages for final publication. All papers accepted by the workshop will appear in the formal Proceedings of the Conference Workshops published by IEEE CS Press, and will therefore be included in the IEEE digital library.
