NLP Beyond Text 2021 - Call for Papers

Second International Workshop on Natural Language Processing Beyond Text (NLPBT 2021)
Co-located with The Web Conference 2021
https://sites.google.com/view/nlpbt-2021

The web is an endless source of information that can be provided in different formats, including text, image, video or audio. At the same time, the way people access the web is rapidly evolving: new forms of interactions (e.g., visual or voice-based) are integrating or replacing the traditional text-based interaction. Conversational assistants, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, represent a notable example of an advanced human-machine interaction.
Therefore, the capability of processing multi-modal data and interpreting user gestures, voice or facial expressions is becoming crucial in modern systems.
This workshop aims to be a forum for both academia and industry researchers where new and unfinished research in the area of Multi/Cross-Modal NLP can be discussed. In particular, the focus of this workshop are (i) studying how to bridge the gap between NLP on spoken and written language and (ii) exploring how NLU models can be empowered by jointly analyzing multiple input sources, including language (spoken or written), vision (gestures and expressions) and acoustic (paralinguistic) modalities.

Topics of interest
==================

Workshop topics include but are not limited to:

- Text pre-processing on ASR transcriptions
- Bridging the gap between NLU of written texts and SLU
- Multi/Cross-modal Natural Language Understanding
- Multi/Cross-modal Emotion/Sentiment Analysis
- Multi/Cross-modal Conversational Systems
- Multi/Cross-modal Machine Translation
- Multi/Cross-modal Question Answering
- Multi/Cross-modal Information Retrieval
- Relevant resources and datasets for multi/cross-modal NLP

Instructions for Authors
========================

Papers must be submitted in PDF according to the Web Conference guidelines (https://www2021.thewebconf.org/authors/call-for-papers/). All workshop papers should be no more than 10 pages in length. Papers must be submitted in PDF according to the ACM format published in the ACM guidelines, selecting the generic “sigconf” sample. The PDF files must have all non-standard fonts embedded. Workshop papers must be self-contained and in English.

Submissions are handled through Easychair at the following URL: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=nlpbt2021

Additional Information and Contact Details
==========================================

The workshop is running a double-blind review process. In preparing your manuscript, do not include any information which could reveal your identity, or that of your co-authors. In your submission, you should eliminate all direct references to your own previous work. That is, avoid phrases such as "this contribution generalizes our results for XYZ". Also, please do not disproportionately cite your own previous work. In other words, make your submission as anonymous as possible. We need your cooperation in our effort to maintain a fair, double-blind reviewing process - and to consider all submissions equally.
