First Annual Franciscan Connections Virtual Conference
Sponsored by The Franciscan Study Center at Tilburg University and The Franciscan Institute at St. Bonaventure University

Lesser Ethics: Retrieving the Good Life in the Franciscan Tradition

Dates
Thursday, June 24, 2021, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (NY time) / 15.00-20.00 (CET time)
Friday, June 25, 2021, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (NY time) / 15.00-20.00 (CET time)

Theme
This interdisciplinary Zoom virtual conference seeks to tease out a new, more relational methodology for ethics in our time. It does so by addressing the question how we can make the Franciscan intellectual and spiritual tradition, in particular its articulation of moral goodness and concern for the common good, relevant and fruitful for a present-day ethical practice.

Themes to be addressed may include, but are not limited to:

Past and Present
Religion and Morality
Elements of a New Ethical Theory
Moral Exemplarity: Stories, Virtues, Leaders
The Highest Good
Shared Goods
Interior Goods
Action and Contemplation
Conversion
Franciscan Ethics and Economy
Franciscan Ethics and Ecology
Franciscan Ethics and Modern-Day Crises

Practical Matters
The editors of Franciscan Connections welcome paper proposals submitted in English.
Abstracts should be kept as close to 100 words as possible.
Each paper should last 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.
Papers may be published in our Lesser Ethics conference volume or on our international Franciscan blog Franciscan Connections.

Paper Proposals
Proposals must be submitted by March 1st, 2021.
