BET ON HEALTH Online International Conference 2020
October 29–30, 2020

Organized by
Faculty of Tourism, University of Maribor, Slovenia

Against the backdrop of today's globalized and digital world, health promotion is facing many significant challenges that are reflected in rising socio-economic inequalities, differing governmental imperatives, economic pressures, changes in patterns of communication and technological development, as well as in the shifting community motivations and expectations. The International Conference Bet on Health aims to bring together leading researchers and practitioners to exchange and share their experiences and research results on the issues of sports, well-being and health, and the role of local authorities/communities in planning, implementing and evaluating policies and practices related to public health issues. It will provide an interdisciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent trends and innovations, as well as concerns and practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of health promotion and well-being, sports, and local politics.

Prospective authors from all disciplinary backgrounds are kindly encouraged to contribute to and help shape the conference through submissions of their extended research abstracts (see the details below).

Among others, the conference wishes to address the following topics in particular:

● Public health issues and the concept of well-being (with special attention to new developments in the field of behavioural and social science theory as applied to health promotion practice and research, targeting all groups across the entire lifespan and socioeconomic gradient).
● Health promotion through sport (using sport as a tool for health promoting outcomes or sustainable development goals) and health promotion in sports (health promotion initiatives/interventions/events performed in sport).
● Healthy nutrition (the importance of healthy nutrition for the well-being of the growing world population)
● Motivation and sport (motivation and behavioural change, physical activity and mental health, body image in sport and exercise).
● Leisure, outdoor/indoor recreational activities, and sport tourism: new trends in the sport tourism industry.
● Policy aspects: policy analysis, policy-makers and stakeholders in health promotion initiatives, sport infrastructure and sports policies, implementation and management of sports programmes.
● The role of local communities and local politics in health and sport promotion (coordinating sports policy with health policy, ‘sport for all’ programmes, etc.).
● Research in relation to emerging concepts within the field of health promotion, such as physical literacy, salutogenesis, social capital, etc.
● Re-thinking health promotion in the digital era: new media, technological opportunities and the socio-political implications of digitized health promotion initiatives.
● Impacts and implications of the COVID-19 situation on micro and macro levels (from the level of private choice/motivation, the issue of physical/spatial distancing measures in group sports, etc. to the level of policy redirection of funds, closure of sports facilities, effects on sports tourism, etc.)

Note: all the abstracts that are within the scope of the conference will be accepted for the review process regardless of the issues they address; the issues listed above are intended as suggestive guidelines.

Information on keynote speaker(s) is to be announced.
---------------------------------------------------

Participation at the conference is free of charge.

In the first instance, extended abstracts of up to 2,000 words are invited for peer review; these will form the basis for acceptance of the paper for presentation. The abstract should therefore clearly state the objective of the presentation, the findings and their significance to the call, and how they help advance our knowledge in the field of recreational activities, public health, or sport tourism. It should include: title, keywords, introduction, method, findings/discussion, and conclusion.

General submission rules
Each author is welcome to present up to two submissions.
At least one of the authors must register for the conference if the submission is to be included in the final conference schedule.
Please submit two files:
1. Cover page including the title of the extended abstract, author(s) name(s), institution’s name(s), institution’s address(es), corresponding author(s) and their email address(es).
2. Extended abstract including title and your submitted text. This second document must not contain author(s) names or any details that would inhibit the blind review process.

The deadline for the submission of the extended abstract: September 25, 2020
Submit it via online form or send to conference.ft@um.si

Notification of acceptance: October 10, 2020

Registration deadline (with registration form) is to be announced.

Publication opportunities

All accepted abstracts will be published in a book of abstracts.

The organizing committee has teamed up with the journal Academica Turistica – Tourism and Innovation Journal. A number of selected high-impact full-text papers will be sent to be considered for publication in the Journal. Submitted papers must not be under consideration by any other journal or publication. Full papers are expected to be due in December 2020 and should comply with Academica Turistica submission instructions. Author guidelines are also available here. More details will be notified after the conference.

All other papers will be invited for publication in the book of proceedings.
