Call For Papers

The biennial ECSQARU conferences are a major forum for advances in the theory and practice of reasoning under uncertainty. Contributors are expected to come both from researchers interested in advancing the technology and from practitioners who are using uncertainty techniques in applications. The scope of ECSQARU includes, but is not limited to, fundamental issues, representation, inference, learning, and decision making in qualitative and numeric paradigms.

Previous ECSQARU conferences have been held in Marseille (1991), Granada (1993), Fribourg (1995), Bonn (1997), London (1999), Toulouse (2001), Aalborg (2003), Barcelona (2005), Hammamet (2007), and Verona (2009).

We invite submissions of Conference Papers, PhD Forum Posters, and Software Demos for ECSQARU-2011. (Please see Call for Papers and Submissions at the conference website for further details.)

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

• Algorithms for uncertain inference
• Argumentation systems
• Automated planning & acting
• Bayesian networks & Causal networks
• Belief functions
• Belief revision & merging
• Classification & Clustering
• Decision theory and graphs
• Default reasoning
• Description logics with uncertainty
• Empirical studies of algorithms
• Foundations of reasoning and decision making under uncertainty
• Fuzzy sets and Fuzzy Logic
• Game theoretic agents
• Implementation & applications of uncertain systems
• Imprecise probabilities
• Inconsistency handling
• Information fusion
• Learning for uncertainty formalisms
• Logics for reasoning under uncertainty
• Markov decision processes
• Probabilistic logics
• Possibility theory & Possibilistic logic
• Preferences
• Rough sets
• Semantic Web and uncertainty
• Uncertainty in databases
• Uncertainty & data integration

Conference Papers: Papers must not exceed 12 pages. Submitted papers will be evaluated by peer review on the basis of originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. All accepted conference papers will be included in the conference proceedings to be published in the Springer LNAI series. Authors of accepted papers are expected to attend the conference and to present their work.

INVITED SPEAKERS: The three invited speakers at the ECSQARU’11 conference are:

**Prof Didier Dubois: CNRS and "Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse" (IRIT), France

**Prof Dov Gabbay: King's College London, UK

**Prof Joe Halpern: Cornell University, USA

SPECIAL ISSUE OF International Journal of Approximate Reasoning: Authors of selected papers from ECSQARU’11 will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers for possible inclusion in a special issue of IJAR.

**Conference Paper Submission Deadline: 31st January 2011
**Notification of Acceptance: 21st March 2011

PhD FORUM POSTERS: To provide opportunities for PhD students to present their current work, to meet and exchange experiences with other students in similar areas, and to receive feedback from senior researchers, ECSQARU 2011 will organize a PhD Forum Poster session.

We encourage submissions from PhD students at any level, and from any topic area within the broad scope of ECSQARU conference series. Poster papers should be prepared with the Springer LNCS/LNAI format and must not exceed 6 pages.

Please send poster submissions in PDF by 2nd May 2011 to:

SOFTWARE DEMOS: Approaches to handling uncertainty/incompleteness have been developed for many real-world applications. To show-case generic frameworks and application specific systems, we invite submissions of software demonstrations at ECSQARU 2011 conference.

Please submit a demonstration title and abstract (max 2-pages) by 2nd May 2011 to:
