Special Issue on
Spam, Phishing, and Countermeasures for Undesirable Electronic Communications

Abusive activities in electronic communications such as spam and
phishing are a critical security problem on the Internet, threatening
the usefulness and trustworthiness of the Internet email system, social
networks, Voice over IP (VoIP), e-commerce, and the alike of which
electronic messaging is an integral part. Despite more than a decade of
anti-spam and anti-fraud research and development efforts, abusive
activities in electronic communications have continuously been on the
rise on the Internet.

In this special issue, we solicit original work in all areas of
detection, classification, and prevention of abusive activities in
electronic communications such as spamming, scamming and phishing. In
particular, we seek original work on identifying new trends and tactics
in undesirable electronic communications, exploring novel research and
development challenges in detecting and preventing undesirable
electronic communications, and developing new techniques and algorithms
to detect and prevent abusive activities in electronic communications.
Specific topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

o Spam and phishing control in Internet email system
o Spam and phishing control in Instant Messenger
o Spam and phishing control in emerging areas such as social networks,
VoIP, and e-commerce
o Spam and phishing control on handheld devices such as smartphones
o Novel pattern classification and machine learning algorithms for spam
and phishing control
o Accountability, trust, and reputation in electronic communications
o Message sender authentication techniques
o Message origin tracking and discovery
o Forensic analysis in electronic communications for supporting law
enforcement
o Case studies on international regulatory activities for spam control
o New trends and tactics in undesirable electronic communications
o Modeling and analysis of economics of abuse, phishing, spam, scam and
fraud
o Online fraud, cybercrime, identity theft, and other online crimes
o Anti spam hardware appliances for companies
o Techniques for detecting scams in email and on the web

Submission Guidelines:

Authors are invited to submit high quality and original work that is not under
review in any conference or journal. Papers should be submitted to
