Call for articles for the monographic issue on the impact of social networks on teaching and learning

Social media and emerging technologies have transformed how news is captured and shared, how politicians connect with the populace, and how businesses interact with customers. Is education the next discipline to be impacted? This special issue of RUSC will analyse the growing influence of social learning in higher education, including design, teaching and learning, scholarship and research, as well as next-generation technologies that are blending physical and virtual spaces.

Thematic areas of the monographic

We are interested in receiving research articles on this topic by authors from all the educational sectors and across the world.



The specific thematic areas of the monographic issue are as follows:

* The role of the educator in social networks
* Adaptation of learning theories for digital environments
* Systemic change in education in response to affordances of social networks
* Social network analysis in courses and learning environments
* Mobile devices in social learning
* Personal learning environments and networks
* Learning design - methods and models of designing for social networks
* The value of openness in learning
* Next-generation social technologies
* Scholarship and peer review in online social networks
* Blending virtual and physical worlds - location-based services
* Self-formed learning support networks



Guest Editors

* George Siemens, Technology Enhanced Knowledge Research Institute, Athabasca University, Canada.
* Martin Weller, Institute of Educational Technology, Open University, UK.


Submission procedure

Articles should not exceed 6,000 words and must contain the following details:

* Title
* Abstract (200-300 words)
* 4 to 6 keywords
* Body of the article (divided into sections and subsections)
* Bibliography
* The author's personal details (name and surname, academic appointment or position, full physical work address, and electronic address)
* Brief curriculum vitae (100-200 words)



Articles should be written in English or Spanish.

You need to register as an author on the journal's website in order to be able to submit work (http://www.uoc.edu/ojs/index.php/rusc/user/register). Once registered, enter the username and password you receive during the registration process to begin the submission process. In Step 1, select the Monographic section, and accept the prior conditions for submission and copyright. In Step 2, enter the metadata (title, abstract, keywords). In Step 3, attach the original. You can leave Step 4 empty if there are no more files, but you need to go on to Step 5 to complete the process.


Peer-review

The articles selected by the editors will be peer reviewed by at least two members of RUSC's Editorial Board or by recognised experts in the field, as indicated by the editors.
