* Call for Papers
Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, commonly known as drones) have various forms, such as small quad-/hexa-/octo-copters, airplanes, or blimps. They are novel mobile unmanned autonomous systems organized in standalone or networked teams, and they are increasingly investigated in various contexts to support human. Recently, applications employing UAS or drones can be extended to a wide range of areas, e.g., surveillance, platooning, traffic control, search-and-rescue missions, wild fire monitoring, product delivery, or video taking. Additionally, drones can also offer the capability to improvise ad hoc wireless networks in case of emergencies. In the course of such missions, UAS or drones can perceive their environment through embedded computing power and a variety of sensors, such as IMU sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometer), GPS units, and various types of cameras. However, their all useful applications and perception of environments require reliable communication systems that are used to share information and coordinate activities among them.
The focus of the workshop will be on dealing with requirements, challenges, constraints, regulations, public safety, theoretical issues, algorithm/protocol/system design, innovative applications, and experimental results of UASs/drones and their communication networks. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Communication architectures and protocols for UASs or drones
Positioning and localization
Swarming and coordination
Autonomous flight control
Ground control system architecture, operation and maintenance
Vision and object tracking
Sensors for flight and fleet control
Deep-learning tools, software, applications for UASs or drones
Delay-tolerant aerial systems
Safety and regulatory issues
Security, protection and privacy issues
Energy-efficient operation and energy harvesting of UASs or drones
Mobility-awareness
Mission-critical and/or context-aware solutions
Emergency applications
UAS or drone-based surveillance
Mapping applications
Smart cities and urban applications of UASs or drones
Empirical results of UAS or drone testbeds
DroneCAN solicits submission of original work not previously published or under review at another conference or journal.

All papers must be submitted electronically, in PDF format, and uploaded on EDAS. The direct link for paper submission is https://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=22905&track=84454. There are two options for the submissions, either a full paper or a short paper. We decided to allow the submission of short papers in order to accommodate the most recent research outcomes. The submissions should be formatted with single-spaced, double-column pages using at least 10 pt (or higher) size fonts on A4 or letter pages in IEEE style format. The maximum number of pages is 6 for full papers and 3 for short papers. Detailed formatting and submission instructions will be available on the conference web site (http://www.icufn.org/?page_id=399).

Submitted papers will be reviewed by the workshop Program Committee and judged on originality, technical correctness, relevance, and quality of presentation. All accepted papers will appear in the IEEE Xplore Digital library and will be indexed by Scopus and EI Compendex only if at least one of the authors registers at the full registration rate and attends to present the paper. Also, extended versions of selected papers will be published in the following international journals (SCIE-indexed) as a special section for the ICUFN 2017.
