The instructor of record for a college course is the sole person responsible for crafting the course syllabus, creating assignments, and evaluating students, yet collaboration is present in all aspects of our teaching. We encourage our students to work with us and with one another in order to foster a sense of community. Outside of the classroom as members of a department, we have the opportunity not only to share resources with colleagues but to invite them into our classrooms in a variety of capacities, from classroom observations to guest lectures to team teaching a course. This roundtable will explore the many ways in which collaboration enhances pedagogy, considering how this intersection ultimately strengthens one’s teaching and augments student engagement in the classroom. Possible approaches include:

· strategies for creating a classroom community (e.g. group work, peer review and other intraclassroom collaboration)

· interdepartmental (especially cross-disciplinary) collaboration and curriculum development

· intradepartmental collaboration—pedagogical resources, workshops, etc.

· collaboration among different academic ranks (e.g. graduate student, full-time and contingent faculty)

· developing a sense of pedagogical community for contingent or non-tenure track faculty members and/or graduate students

· how academic rank might influence motivation or ability to collaborate

· reflections on how departments succeed or fail to encourage collaboration

· fostering collaboration through classroom observations

· team-teaching

· guest speakers, visiting panels and other ways to incorporate outside people and resources into the classroom

· collaboration through interdisciplinary/interdepartmental initiatives (such as certificate or concentration programs)

· collaboration with people/institutions outside of the home university

· using technology to foster collaboration

We hope this roundtable will represent a wide variety of perspectives, so we welcome proposals from instructors at all career stages (graduate students, adjuncts, full-time lecturers, tenure-track/tenured faculty, department administrators, course coordinators, etc.). We also encourage submissions that are themselves a collaborative effort.
