Language: English

Andrzej Klimczuk, Ph.D. Candidate (Warsaw School of Economics, Poland)

Volume Description:

A European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations in 2012 (EY2012) was influential for the improvement of dissemination of concepts related to the ageing policy. This event provided not only an opportunity to raise awareness about ageing populations but also to raise key questions about policies and measures to respond challenges related to ageing at all policy levels. These issues are especially important in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries that are not only characterised by a variety of post-communist regime transitions but also complex demographic transformation. Various states as well as regional and local authorities took advantage of the EY2012 opportunity to prepare and implement strategies and plans regarding specific territorial areas or thematic fields such as health, long-term care, ageing in urban and rural areas, age-friendly environments, public engagement of older adults, lifelong learning including the Universities of the Third Age movement, and integrational solidarity.

However, what about the evaluation of results and achievements of activities that emerged after the EY2012? Are policymakers and relevant stakeholders still active in the field of ageing policy? Are ageing policies implemented or they just serve to promotional purposes? Are there active partnerships between state, commercial, and civil entities? How ageing policies are coordinated and governed? Are there any best practices that may be further disseminated?

The aim of the volume is to discuss the programming, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of policies, programs, and projects related to ageing in the CEE region.

The volume welcomes papers that will provide both theoretical and empirical findings. Selected topics that we would like to underline include, but are not limited to:

– A critical review of the diversity of ageing policy concepts (such as healthy ageing, active ageing, creative ageing, and ageing in place).

– Preventive approaches in ageing policies.

– An integrated and smart public policies for older adults and intergenerational programs.

– Governance and ageing policies.

– The emergence of Council of Seniors.
