Submission deadline: 1 December 2011

Emerging markets are attracting significant interest among IT professionals and researchers. These markets, which include BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries, Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Indonesia, and South Korea, are embracing IT for socio-economic development. In particular, they’re leveraging IT for communication, information dissemination and access, education, banking, healthcare, agriculture, government, and social development.

IT professionals and researchers are thus examining how IT can address the real-world problems emerging markets face. However, these markets have different requirements than developed markets and pose some unique challenges.

The July / August 2012 issue of IT Professional will focus on IT in emerging markets. The magazine solicits papers covering a range of topics, including:

Innovative IT applications for emerging markets
IT for economic and human development, communication, healthcare, education, and weather forecasting in emerging markets
The challenges in developing and deploying applications for emerging markets
Drivers and barriers to widespread adoption of IT in emerging markets
Issues and challenges emerging markets face in embracing IT
Interfaces, information presentation, and adoption to local languages
Novel mobile applications for emerging markets
IT infrastructures and application frameworks for emerging markets
Cloud computing’s adoption and impact in emerging markets
Strategies to narrowing the digital divide
Problems faced by IT users and vendors in emerging markets
Emerging markets’ impact on the IT industry
