Call For Papers

Call for Papers 21st UKAIS Conference on Information Systems
April 12th-13th 2016, Oxford

UKAIS Comes of Age: 21 years of IS, looking back to look forward

Following a meeting of leading academics in 1993, the concept of a learned society in Information Systems (IS) was born, with the UK Academy for Information Systems being formally established in 1994, and the first conference held in 1995. The initial drivers for forming UKAIS were concerns about the way IS teaching and research were regarded and funded, which stemmed from a lack of recognition of IS as a growing and important academic discipline. We want to use this, the 21st conference, as a forum to debate and reflect on the progress and future prospects for the field. As well as papers on any relevant topic, we particularly invite developmental and full papers around the following themes:
To look back on the original aim and look forward to inform our future research
To consider the current status of IS as an academic discipline 21 years on
To capture the key achievements of IS
To examine what we have learned from existing IS research?

The UKAIS conference is the premier academic event in the Information Systems calendar within the UK, and attracts leading scholars from the UK and overseas. It is a charity, whose aims are to enhance the recognition and knowledge of IS within the UK, and to provide a forum for discussing issues in IS teaching and research. UKAIS recognises the importance of including practitioners in its work.

Some 2016 conference highlights:
Panel Discussion with ex-Presidents
A panel of ex UKAIS presidents and board members will reflect on the original UKAIS definition of IS as “‘Information systems are the means by which people and organisations, utilising technologies, gather, process, store, use and disseminate information”. Is this still valid in a world of ubiquitous technologies?

Workshop /lunchtime event: An IS Time Capsule To celebrate 21 years of UKAIS, and the imminent appointment of our first female president Rachel McLean, we are curating a time capsule. We would welcome your suggestions on format, where to store the capsule, what to include, and why.
