EURINT 2021: Assessing the EU’s actorness in the eastern neighbourhood
Since its inception, the EU’s neighbourhood strategy has hardly been able to alleviate the difficulties this region faces. The current volatile environment generated by the rising tensions induces significant spill-over effects over the broader European context, ultimately altering the political initiatives and cooperation frameworks developed in the eastern neighbourhood borderland regions. The 2021 edition of EURINT Conference Series focuses on bringing into debate the EU’s actorness in the eastern borderland regions, thus aiming at fostering academic debates and discussions that question and assess the efficiency of the EU’s strategy towards the eastern neighbourhood. In this regard, the conference seeks to unpack the region’s future perspectives by trying to look into the implications of the geopolitical tensions over the efficiency in the long-run of the EU’s role in the eastern neighbourhood, and particularly at the borderlands’ level. The purpose of this event is to provide a proper context for mutual dialogue, joint knowledge and a better understanding of the effectiveness and challenges of the EU’s neighbourhood strategy and instruments in relation to its Eastern Partnership countries and debate whether the current design of these instruments is still suitable for a significantly altered region marked by the current context. The conference has a strong academic interdisciplinary character (political, economic, social, legal, etc.), thus welcoming contributions on various topics, as follows: 1. EU’s CBC and neighbourhood instruments and the current regional turmoil 2. Impact of the unfolding tensions on the EU’s strategy and policies in the neighbourhood 3. EU’s resilience as an international actor in the EaP region 4. Cross-Border Governance and Cooperation in Eastern Europe 5. EU’s actorness in times of pandemics 6. Legal frameworks of EU’s interactions 7. Economic ties between the EU and its eastern neighbourhood This event, that welcomes everyone interested in enhancing their research skills in European studies and in contributing to developing a transnational network of contacts and cooperation, is organised to present the outcomes of a long cooperation programme between the partners from the Jean Monnet Network ENACTED project. During the two-day conference, an exciting academic programme, featuring renowned international experts and keynote lectures, will be offered to our participants: PhD candidates, post-doc fellows, researchers, civil society activists, NGO representatives, consultants, policy advocates and many more. EURINT 2021 will be organised as a hybrid event that will combines ‘on site’ event with online component. Also, we will be as flexible as we can to allow delegates to switch registration types between "on-site" and "online," depending on their circumstances. We monitor the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and make decisions based on the latest guidelines. The deadline for online registration and submission of extended abstracts is 15 June 2021. The presented papers will be published either in CES Working Papers or in the Conference Proceedings (indexed in numerous international databases).
