Introduction
Wireless sensors network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of distributed devices that cooperatively monitor physical and/or environmental conditions. However, sensors’ communication as well as sensing ranges are small as well as sensors are battery-powered. On the other side, they are expected to operate without attendance for a relatively long period of time. In fact, in most cases it is very difficult and even impossible to change or recharge batteries for the sensor nodes. Moreover, WSNs are characterized with denser levels of sensor node deployment, unreliability sensor nodes, and sever power, computation, and memory constraints. Thus, these unique characteristics and constraints present many new challenges for the development and applications of WSNs.
The previous characteristics of sensor nodes may lead to energy depletion, hardware failure, communication link errors. In addition, the lack of secure WSNs may expose the nodes to different types of attacks including physical attacks, denial of service attacks, and many other types of attacks. The problem becomes even more complicated in mobile WSNs. Therefore and due to all of these reasons, sensor networks are considered prone to failure even more than any other ad hoc networks.

To solve the previously mentioned problems in WSNs, there is a need for comprehensive solutions that include efficient methods and strategies for designing a reliable network, fault identification, fault handling, and fault preventions. The term Fault tolerance is defined as the ability of a system to operate correctly in the presence of faults. Fault tolerance in a WSN system may exist at hardware, software, network communication, and application layers. It may also require duplicate data and resource optimization at different layer. For instance, the fault tolerance might be considered during sensor deployment, clustering, and designing routing algorithms.

This special issue is considered a vehicle for novel solutions to the faults of WSNs. The editors welcome submissions from experts from industry, governments and academia experienced in engineering, and reliable network design or modeling.

Objective
This special issue focus on reliability and fault tolerance in WSNs Extended and revised versions of selected best papers from the international conference on Intelligent Information Processing, Security and Advanced Communication (IPAC'2015) http://ipac.awict.net/index.html will be invited for this special issue.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit their original empirical research articles 3,000–5,000 words in length. Interested authors must consult the journal’s guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/samples/call-for-papers/ prior to submission. All submitted articles will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis by no fewer than 3 members of the journal’s Editorial Review Board and 1 Associate Editor. Final decision regarding acceptance/revision/rejection will be based on the reviews received from the reviewers and at the sole discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.
