Multimodal Pattern Recognition of Social Signals in
Human Computer Interaction

http://neuro.informatik.uni-ulm.de/MPRSS2012

The 1st International Workshop on Multimodal pattern recognition of social signals in human computer interaction (MPRSS 2012) will be held at November 11th, 2012 in Tsukuba, Japan as a satellite event of the 21st International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2012).

Important dates
===============
June 15, 2012 Submission deadline
August 1, 2012 Notification of acceptance
December 1, 2012 Camera ready version for Springer proceedings
November 11, 2012 Workshop

Motivation and workshop topics
==============================
Building intelligent artificial companions capable to interact with humans in the same way humans interact with each other is a major challenge in affective computing. Such a type of interactive companion must be capable of perceiving and interpreting multimodal information about the user in order to be able to produce an appropriate response. The proposed workshop mainly focuses on pattern recognition and machine learning methods for the perception of the user's affective states, activities and intentions.

Workshop topics include, but are not limited to:
A. Algorithms to recognize emotions, behaviors, activities and intentions
. Facial expression recognition
. Recognition of gestures, head/body poses
. Audiovisual emotion recognition
. Analysis of bio-physiological data for emotion recognition
. Multimodal information fusion architectures
. Multi Classifier Systems and Multi View Classifiers
. Temporal fusion
B. Learning algorithms for social signal processing
. Learning from unlabeled and partially labeled data
. Learning with noisy/uncertain labels
. Deep learning architectures
. Learning of time series
C. Applications relevant to the workshop
. Companion Technologies
. Robotics
. Assistive systems
D. Benchmark data sets relevant to workshop topics

Submission guidelines
=====================
Prospective authors are invited to submit their papers by uploading them via the workshop website.

Submissions must be uploaded by June 15th, 2012 and must be prepared according to the Springer LNCS/LNAI format. The length of the final paper will be limited to 8 pages. Papers must not have been previously published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Each paper will be peer-reviewed by at least two experts in the field for originality, significance, clarity, impact, and soundness. Notification of acceptance is August 1st, 2012.

Authors of all accepted papers will be invited to submit final versions of their papers for publication in the Springer LNCS/LNAI series. The workshop proceedings book will appear after the workshop. Submission for camera-ready versions is December 1st, 2012.

In addition to the workshop proceedings it is planned to publish a Special Issue on the workshop topics in the Pattern Recognition Letters Journal.
