Advanced Design Approaches to Emerging Software Systems: Principles, Methodology and Tools
A book edited by Dr. Xiaodong Liu and Dr. Yang Li

To be published by IGI Global: http://www.igi-global.com/requests/details.asp?ID=738

Introduction
Recently, the rapid and fundamental advances in computing technologies have been driving the role and scope of software systems to a new level. A number of new types of software systems are emerging, among which service based systems, cloud computing, pervasive computing, and Internet of Things are eminent examples. These systems have imposed new challenges on their design, development, testing and maintenance, and are demanding for new appropriate approaches and tools. It is worthy to systematically collect such new approaches and resultant tools to promote their acceptance, foster further developments, and speed up their commercialization.

Objective of the Book
This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and latest empirical research findings in the area. It will help to clarify the present chaotic and confusing literature of the current state of the art and knowledge in the areas of the design and engineering of those emerging software systems. The book will also facilitate the exchange and evolution of the above Software Engineering advances among multiple disciplines, research, industry, and user communities.

Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and researchers working in the field of software engineering in various disciplines, for example, software architecture, computer network, system evolution, pervasive computing, supply chain management, ambient intelligence, information and communication sciences, social network, and IT economy. Moreover, the book will provide insights and support executives concerned with the management and economy of information system development, maintenance and evolution in different types of work communities and environments.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Principles, Methodology and Tools for Engineering Service Based Systems
Principles, Methodology and Tools for Engineering Pervasive Computing Systems
Principles, Methodology and Tools for Engineering Cloud Computing Systems
Principles, Methodology and Tools for Engineering Internet of Things

Prospective authors are encouraged to contribute state of the art surveys, as well as in-depth discussions, on the engineering approaches, tools, best practice, and new directions.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before January 25, 2010, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by February 10, 2010 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by March 31, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Publisher
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. For additional information regarding the publisher, please visit www.igi-global.com. This publication is anticipated to be released in 2011.
