Open Journal for Big Data (OJBD) *** Call for Papers: Special Issue on System Software Support for Big Data *** Big Data is one of the most important challenges for computer science research in the upcoming decade, influencing all levels of the hardware/ software stack. However, most current Big Data research efforts concentrate on algorithms for analyzing and processing Big Data. The system software and infrastructure implications of Big Data processing are so far underrepresented. Problems on the system-software level include inadequate resource management methods and complex and performance-limiting unpredictable hardware/software interactions. Recent years have already brought up a number of innovative solutions, such as in-memory databases, distributed filesystems, and parallel data processing frameworks. The goal of this special issue is to showcase the state of the art in this young, but very important area. We are soliciting papers in all areas of system software support for Big Data. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Dealing with High-Performance Architectures for Big Data - Multi/manycore architectures - Integration of FPGAs and GPGPUs - Memory and storage hierarchies - High-performance I/O Boosting data processing performance - In-memory databases - Big data analysis in realtime - Massively distributed data processing - Special-purpose system software System software design challenges - Scalability and exascale problems - Virtualization and microkernel technologies - Storage management for Big Data - Memory management for Big Data Architecting systems for Big Data - Bottleneck analyses - Resource modeling for Big Data - System support for stream processing - Energy and power-efficient Big Data processing - Integrating diverse data sources (sensor or smartphone networks) The Open Journal for Big Data (OJBD) is an Open Access online journal. Information about the OJBD, including formatting instruction, can be found at http://www.ronpub.com/index.php/journals/ojbd For papers submitted in 2014, publication fees are waived. Please submit your manuscript electronically at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ojbd17 and indicate "Special Issue: BigSys" on the cover page of your paper. Manuscripts must conform to the formatting instructions on the journal web site and be submitted in PDF format. Papers can be submitted as short (up to 4,000 words/9 pages) or long (up to 10,000 words/25 pages) papers. Expanded versions of previously published conference research papers are welcome as long as they contain at least 30% new material; authors should clearly state in a footnote on the first page how the manuscript differs from the conference paper. Papers simultaneously submitted elsewhere will be returned without review. *** Important Dates *** Submission Deadline: Dec 8, 2014 Revised Manuscripts Due: Mar 9, 2015 Notification of Final Acceptance: Mar 23, 2015 Final Manuscripts Due: Apr 6, 2015 Publication Date: May/June 2015 *** Guest Editors *** Dr. Michael Engel Leeds Beckett University, UK M.Engel@leedsbeckett.ac.uk Prof. Olaf Spinczyk TU Dortmund, Germany Olaf.Spinczyk@tu-dortmund.de |
