In this digital era, enormous amounts of data are ubiquitous and pervasive, which are known as Big Data. These data are about different domains, from different sources, and in different formats. It will be the season of light, if the knowledge hidden in these data can be modeled, understood, and utilized; while it will be the season of darkness, if the useful information from these data cannot be manipulated, integrated, and extracted. Fortunately, the development of Data Sciences and Data Engineering (DSDE) about data management, distribution, storage, integration, and application will bring us to the spring of hope and the age of wisdom.

So the aim of the Special Issue on Data Sciences and Data Engineering, which will be published in Dec. 2015, in Journal of Electronic Science and Technology (vol. 13, no. 4, JEST, ISSN 1674-862X), is to gather the researchers interested in DSDE and bring together the state-of-art research results, industrial applications, and also the challenges of DSDE. Authors are invited to submit unpublished papers, which are not under review in any other conference or journal, in the following topic areas, but not limited to:

Paper Submission Deadline: 30th Sep. 2015

JEST is a peer-reviewed periodical, indexed by EI in INSPEC, and also included in DOAJ, CA, CSCD, CNKI, Sciencepaper Online, etc.

All the manuscripts will undergo the standard peer review process. For manuscript preparation and submission, please follow the guidelines in the Information for Authors at http://www.journal.uestc.edu.cn/?p=category&category_id=15. All the manuscripts could be submitted by the standard submission way or the quick submission way. When submitting, please indicate that this paper is intended for Special Issue on DSDE.
