Welcome to the 5th Conference on Sustainable Business, Energy and Development in Asia (COSDA 2019). This international, peer-reviewed conference is a special event held on Saturday and Sunday, August 31 to September 1, 2019 at the Mitsui Garden Hotel in Hiroshima, Japan. COSDA is being organized alongside the 5th Pacific Symposium for Nursing and Healthcare Professionals (SNAHP 2019).
COSDA 2019 will be held in late August, after the end of the rainy season and humidity. It is the perfect time of year for travel in Hiroshima with comfortable temperatures and less crowds. It is the ideal period for visiting sites around Hiroshima, including its two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Peace Park and the Shrine Island of Miyajima (Itsukushima). A short ferry ride away from downtown Hiroshima, the island of Miyajima is a stunningly beautiful island that is home to some lovely shrines and temples. Because they’re only 16km apart, Hiroshima and Miyajima are usually paired together in most people’s itineraries, and should not be missed, especially for first time visitors to Hiroshima. About COSDA 2019 The concepts of sustainable business, sustainable energy and sustainable development are three of the most important focal points that the United Nations is attempting to address through post-Millennium Development Goals initiative. In regards to these three areas, the big question is how to address our growth needs, in particular those of the developing countries, given the limitations imposed by the state of business, energy, development and social organization on our ability to meet present and future needs. With the theme of Challenges and Opportunities, COSDA 2019 raises important questions regarding the future of sustainable business, energy and development. For example, what type of governance structures, business practices, technological innovations, legal agreements or policy tools can best bridge the needs-limitation gap in order to facilitate and accelerate sustainable business, energy and development? The rapid economic growth of the developing countries in Asia in the recent decades has added a new dimension to this process, by shifting the leverage of change from the West to the East. Designing infrastructure, products, enterprises and processes with sustainability in mind can have an enormous impact on environmental and social systems. Therefore, COSDA 2019 offers a platform for scholarly and applied conversations among a wide variety of stakeholders concerned with the continual challenge of advancing the sustainable business, energy and development agenda: people, planet, and growth.
