Call For Papers

We are pleased to announce the Second Summer School on Distributed and Replicated Environments (DARE 2024).
DARE is aimed at master's students and PhD students interested in the field of distributed systems and programming languages.

In this edition, we focus on techniques for supporting mixed consistency systems. The school combines theory and practice. Through lectures by active researchers in the field, students will get acquainted with state-of-the-art techniques and the latest research advances. Moreover, in hands-on sessions, students can also develop and experiment with existing frameworks.
The prospective topics to be covered in this edition include:

- Introduction to strong consistency and highly available systems
- Designing and implementing replicated data types
- Programming models for distributed systems and applications
- Verification techniques to ensure adequate consistency
- Testing and debugging distributed systems
- Byzantine fault-tolerance

The preliminary list of speakers is as follows:

- Annette Bieniusa, University of Kaiserslautern-Landau, Germany
- Antonio Fernandez, IMDEA Networks, Spain
- Carla Ferreira, NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal
- Carlos Baquero, University of Porto, Portugal
- Elisa Gonzalez Boix, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium
- Gowtham Kaki, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA
- Martin Kleppmann, University of Cambridge, UK
- Mira Mezini, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany
- Vitor Enes, DittoLive Inc, Portugal

DARE 2024 is a summer school organized within the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme  funded by the European Union. The school is also financially supported by emergenCITY, and ACM Europe. As a result, there is no fee for students selected to participate in the school.

Students from partner universities are eligible for an Erasmus+ mobility grant to cover their expenses, this explicitly includes NOVA University of Lisbon, and University of Porto, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, but also check with your local university if they have – or are willing to enter – an Erasmus+ BIP agreement with TU Darmstadt.

Application deadline: 25 June 2024

More information on the school and the application process is available on the website:
