1th International Workshop on Advanced Applications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WAASN??09) To be held in conjunction with MASS 2009 October 5, 2009, Macau SAR, P.R.C. http://grid.sjtu.edu.cn/waasn09/ WORKSHOP AIM With continuous advances in manufacturing low-cost sensors and increasing research efforts on sensor networking, wireless sensor networks have attracted tremendous interests from academy, industry and government. Significant progress has been made in low-power hardware design, operating system, wireless communication, sensor networking, and data management. This has made it more and more practical to develop wireless sensor networks for a wide spectrum of real world applications, ranging from habitat monitoring, security surveillance, and military applications to healthcare applications. This new workshop will focus on advanced applications in wireless sensor networks, which can serve all sectors of the society. These advanced applications usually require an integrated system solution that covers all aspects of a wireless sensor network, including sensor design, networking, data processing, power conservation and importantly, user interface design. The purpose of this workshop is to provide researchers, professionals and practitioners with a unique forum for discussing recent progress in sensor network applications and exchanging open questions and new research ideas. New exciting applications of wireless sensor networks are most welcome. TOPICS OF INTEREST We solicit papers that address important aspects of advanced applications in wireless sensor networks. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: - Security surveillance - Large-scale environmental monitoring - Disaster management - Military and battlefield applications - Medical and healthcare applications - Habitat/ecosystem monitoring - Structural monitoring - Precise agriculture - Digital city and life - Object tracking - Intelligent robot control - Biosensor networks - Vehicle ad hoc networks - Middleware technology - Self-organizing network architecture - Power efficient protocol design - In-network data processing - Sensor data management - Distributed signal processing - Design of low-power sensors - Security IMPORTANT DATES Paper submission: 1 June 2009 Notification: 5 July 2009 Camera-ready: 20 July 2009 Workshop: October 5 2009 PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION All submissions must describe original research, not published or currently under review for another workshop, conference, or journal. Papers must be submitted electronically to EDAS by June 1, 2009, 11:59pm EDT. You can find detailed submission instructions at http://grid.sjtu.edu.cn/waasn09/submission.shtml. Submission implies the willingness of at least one author to attend the workshop and present the paper. Accepted papers will be included in the main proceedings of IEEE MASS 2009 and published by IEEE.
