Call For Papers

The Slavic Studies union at the University of Toronto is pleased to announce its 2015 Graduate Student Conference, to be held in Toronto on April 7-8th, 2015. Our keynote speaker Dr. Mayhill Fowler (Stetson University), a cultural historian focusing on how different kind of state systems shape creativity, and how diversity leads to innovation.

2014’s conference was a great success, featuring presenters from across North America and disciplines. As a sample of the material presented, refer to last year’s programme here: http://tinyurl.com/o3unwca

This year’s conference will bring together aspiring young scholars and early career academics for two days of presentations and concentrated discussions on the study of Eastern European and Slavic nations.

The goal of the conference is to present new research and innovative thinking that explores literary, cultural, political, historical or linguistic themes pertaining to Eastern European and Slavic nations.

The conference seeks to integrate and draw on a wide range of theories and new scholarly research by applying them to Eastern Europe as a case study. Submissions are strongly encouraged from current graduate students, recent graduates (those who graduated in the past two years), professionals and early career academics.

Submissions can focus on a variety of disciplinary topics including, but not limited to, the following:
- Slavic Literature and literature of the region
- Slavic Linguistics, themes pertaining to bilingualism, translations, etc.
- History and Political Science of the Region
