The need for rapid and frequent innovation, often based on instant customer feedback, is radically changing the way software is developed and deployed today. Target environments in which applications are deployed are also growing in variety and complexity. Continuously delivering software to provide new products or services and/or improve existing ones requires that software changes flow rapidly and safely from development environments to testing and production, a challenge that has forced tighter integration between development and operations giving rise to the discipline of DevOps.

The adoption of DevOps practices for software development and deployment (e.g., continuous delivery/deployment), aided by the infrastructure-as-code paradigm for deployment automation (e.g., CFEngine, Chef, Puppet), has been growing tremendously over the past few years, especially after the advent of cloud computing. In this new, fast-paced world, where applications and automation logic are all managed as code, where developers and operators collaborate more closely, where applications are “born on the cloud,” and where software needs to be constantly updated on a large collection of devices, including mobile devices and sensors, new challenges and research opportunities arise in software testing, software engineering, program analysis, distributed systems debugging, and systems management in general.

This workshop aims to bring together DevOps practitioners, industry leaders, and researchers working on relevant areas in order to foster cross-collaboration, instigate new research, further advance and mature DevOps practices in industry, and increase awareness of DevOps in the academic community at large. We solicit papers reporting research falling into any of the topics listed below. We especially encourage submissions lying at the intersection of two or more of the topics of interest. Position papers proposing new research directions, challenging the status quo, or reporting relevant hands-on experience are also encouraged.

The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

Model driven management of distributed applications and systems
Testing and debugging of deployment automation
Infrastructure-as-code tools and methodologies
Testing and debugging of cloud applications based on micro-services
Cloud services development, deployment, debugging, and lifecycle management
Deployment automation and orchestration for IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS clouds
DevOps and deployment methodologies for IoT (Internet of Things)
DevOps methodologies for software build and continuous delivery

Submitted papers should be in IEEE 2-column style with a length limitation of 6 pages including title, abstract, figures, tables, and references.
