Call For Papers

The Inaugural International Institute of Obsolescence Management (IIOM) Conference & Exhibition is being held in Edinburgh, Scotland on 16th to 18th June 2015.

This conference is the first to showcase the IIOM and to position the institute as THE organisation to represent Obsolescence Management practitioners worldwide.

Practitioners from all aspects of the supply chain and across all sectors are strongly encouraged to participate including Obsolescence Practitioners, Design Engineers, Procurement Personnel and Suppliers. Therefore, early submission of abstracts for conference papers is recommended.

Conference Papers
Obsolescence Management is a discipline across multiple products and services with responsibility across various parts of an organisation.

Therefore, papers are invited that correspond to the overall conference theme of:
OBSOLESCENCE – EVERYTHING’S AFFECTED; EVERYONE’S INVOLVED

The theme is further expanded below and papers are invited that should cover, but are not limited to, the following:

1.EVERYTHING’S AFFECTED
Obsolescence Management of non-electronic parts is becoming more of a requirement, contracts from major customers include Obsolescence Management of many different part types, particularly mechanical, electro-mechanical but also basic things like indicators, seals, valves, filters, O-rings, gaskets. Obsolescence Risk should be understood and mitigated across many categories, including:
Electronics
Mechanical
Electro-Mechanical
Software
Tools
Processes
Test Equipment
Skills
Documentation
Papers are invited to explore the Obsolescence Management for each category in detail - what are the challenges and how to identify and manage risk within each?

2.EVERYONE’S INVOLVED
Obsolescence Management impacts on many disciplines other than just engineering, Integrated Logistics Support or Support Engineers. The following disciplines are affected by, or can affect, obsolescence:
Commercial
Purchasing / Procurement
Inventory Management
Design
Configuration Management
Sales
Production
Production Planning (MRP, ERP etc.)
Product Support

Papers are invited to explore each of these disciplines in detail - to explore the impact and responsibilities of these roles within an Obsolescence Management capability.

Submission of papers
Abstracts of sixty to eighty words should be submitted before 14th December 2014 to:
e-mail: papers@cog.org.uk Fax: +44 (0)1727 871336 Tel: +44(0)1727 876029
