The New Color Lines: What Will It Mean to Be an American?

CALL FOR PAPERS

The West Virginia Law Review shall publish papers that explore the legal implications of the projected end of a nationwide white ethnic majority in the United States by 2043.

Authors whose papers are accepted for publication may also be asked to present their projects at the 19th Mid-Atlantic People of Color Conference (MAPOC) from January 29-31, 2015, in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Submissions can encompass practically any area of law provided that they discuss the impact past, present, or future events may have upon this profound change. For instance, an acceptable submission could explore how the contemporary protests surrounding the police shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, might reflect possible future tensions in 2043.

Possible topics include but are not limited to the following:
• Education
• Affirmative Action
• Employment Discrimination
• Racial Bias in the Criminal Justice
System
• Voting Rights
• Housing Discrimination
• Family Law
• Racial Disparities in Health Care
• Immigration Law
• International Law and Human Rights
• Racial Protest
• Racial Categorization
• Color-Blind Constitutionalism
• Reparations

Authors interested in making a submission should send their working title, their full name and institutional affiliation, a current c.v. (with e-mail address and telephone number), and an abstract not to exceed 250 words.

The West Virginia Law Review will seek to select articles that
discuss a wide range of issues and promote diverse views on this future fundamental shift.

Abstracts are due by October 15, 2014. The publication schedule will run as follows:
November 1, 2014 Selected authors receive publication offers.
January 2, 2015 First draft due.
January 2015-April 2015 Editing process.
April 18, 2015 Issue sent for publication.
