Special issue on "Information Fusion in Biometrics" (Information Fusion, Elsevier - Impact Factor 3.47)

Biometrics based authentication, an integral component of identity science, is now being utilized in several applications. Biometric systems use face, fingerprints, iris, voice, gait, etc. to recognize an individual. Examples of large-scale biometric applications include the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM) in the United States, the Aadhaar project in India and the National ID project in Indonesia. In addition, a number of law enforcement agencies and crime scene investigators rely on the use of biometrics for recognizing individuals. A robust biometric system has to rely on multiple sources of information in order to render a decision. For example, a face recognition system may glean information from multiple video frames in order to generate an individual's facial profile; a fingerprint system may consolidate information from all 10 fingers; a biometric system may use multiple traits, such as face, fingerprint and iris; or, a system may combine biometric information with demographic and soft biometric data such as age, gender and race. More recent research has studied the possibility of mixing biometrics in order to impart privacy to biometric templates. Further, in the context of security, methods for integrating an anti-spoofing module with the biometric matcher are being studied. Another area of active research is multibiometric template security. This special issue will focus on recent theoretical and operational advances in biometric fusion. The goal is to bring together researchers and practitioners in (multi)biometrics to share their current research work on related topics. Topics appropriate for this special issue include (but are not necessarily limited to):

New theoretical approaches for information fusion in biometrics
Multispectral and multisensor biometric fusion
Integrating biometrics with biographic/demographic or soft biometric data
Novel sensors to acquire multibiometric data
Co-training multiple biometric matchers
Multibiometric cryptosystems
Biometric fusion in mobile phones
Incorporating anti-spoofing methods in a biometric matcher
Quality-based biometric fusion
Combining geo-spatial data with biometric data
Fusion methods for Big Data in biometrics
Measuring entropy of multibiometric templates
Novel feature/score/rank/decision-level fusion schemes
Combining biometric data with forensic evidence
Mixing templates for biometric security
New multibiometric datasets

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically online at http://ees.elsevier.com/inffus
The corresponding author will have to create a user profile if one has not been established before at Elsevier.
To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion into the special issue, it is important that authors select "SI: INFFUS in Biometrics" when they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process.
