----------------------------------------------------------
The 3rd International York Doctoral Symposium on Computing YDS 2010 ---------------------------------------------------------- 4th November 2010, York, United Kingdom http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/yds/ The Department of Computer Science at The University of York is to host the 3rd International York Doctoral Symposium on Computing (YDS 2010) on the 4th November this year. The goal of the symposium is to bring together doctoral students from around the world to share and exchange their research and ideas with others. The hope is that by bringing students together from a wide range of areas, we can promote interdisciplinary research, as well as allow doctoral students to experience presenting their work to their colleagues. ---------- Background ---------- The first two symposiums were very successful, attracting submissions from students spread around the world. Both symposiums included talks from distinguished speakers, including Prof. Brian Randell (http://www.cs.ncl.ac.uk/people/brian.randell) and Prof. Maria Petrou (http://www.commsp.ee.ic.ac.uk/~mcpetrou/); all of our speakers have been very enthusiastic about the YDS concept. Students who previously presented their work at YDS found it a useful rehearsal for the "main stage", or a great place to discuss work in progress. Papers submitted to YDS 2010 are published as a technical report in the Department of Computer Science's Yellow Report Series (http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/library/onlinereports/), and authors are more than welcome to republish extended versions of their work in journals or other conference proceedings. ----- Scope ----- The scope of the symposium is intentionally very broad, in order that students from all areas of computer science may benefit from it. Welcome topics include (but are certainly not limited to) the following: - Artificial Intelligence - Computer Architectures - Computer Vision - Enterprise Systems - Formal Methods - Human-Computer Interaction - Model-Driven Engineering - Non-Standard Computation - Programming Languages and Systems - Real-Time Systems - Safety Analysis - Software Testing - Theoretical Computer Science --------------------- Submission Guidelines --------------------- Papers should be no longer than 8 pages and must follow the Springer-Verlag LNCS format, which can be found at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html Paper should be submitted by July 20, 2010. For information on submission, please refer to http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/yds/?page_id=17. Submissions will be evaluated by the Program Committee according to their originality, significance, clarity and technical quality. ------------- Mailing Lists ------------- We have created two mailing lists to communicate important news about the symposium regarding attendance and submission. They are, respectively, YDS-attendees@cs.york.ac.uk and YDS-authors@cs.york.ac.uk. We strongly encourage people to subscribe to the appropriate list. Only important notifications will be mailed through these lists. To subscribe to the attendee list you send an email with the subject "subscribe" to YDS-attendees-request@cs.york.ac.uk. Or click this link: Similarly for authors you send an email with the subject "subscribe" to YDS-authors-request@cs.york.ac.uk. YDS is a symposium run by research students for research students. On behalf of the YDS 2010 Organising Committee |
