* Introduction
- Sex and Gender are terms often used synonymously, when sex is better thought of in terms of whether someone is physically a man or a woman and gender in terms of their mind, such as whether they are male, female or a combination. Sex equality is often thought of in terms of increasing the numbers of women in any given organisation as opposed to having more female-brained persons regardless of sex. This special issue seeks to look at how women and men are represented in social media, such as Twitter and Facebook and how the dynamics between and within sexes can be used to increase sex and gender equality online so that people regardless of whether they are a man, woman, transsexual, or whether they are male, female or transgender, can enjoy equal right to participate online.

* Objective
- The objective of the proposed Special Issue is to highlight the specific issues and challenges to supporting gender and sex equality in social networking communities. Research contributions in this special issue will provide insights about the nature of sex and gender online, differences between and within sexes in terms of their contributions to the Internet and attitudes to other Internet users.
