SET has changed and evolved the way we work, play and live. From Stone Age, through the Steam Age to current Digital Age, the discovery of science and invention of new technology have significantly improved the living standards and conditions for mankind. However, such improvements often come at the expense of exhausting natural resources and generate by-products that depreciate habitability of our mother earth. Recent nuclear incident has again reminded us the potential risk of modern technologies. We have long realized that technological advancement has brought along depreciation of natural resources at an alarming rate and threatened the habitability of the earth. However, it will be imprudent to cease technology development and disregard the benefits of technology. Development of technologies for energy resources, healthcare, transportation and communication does not improve merely our lifestyle but also our livelihood. Technological advancement shall continue however with consideration and awareness to ensure sustainability into future. Apart from the environmental issues, future technology shall enhance human’s ability instead of merely assisting and replacing human’s ability. Future technologies will be smart in that they will safeguard the living condition of future generations while improving our quality of life.
