Wireless network technologies are undergoing rapid advancements. The last
few years have experienced a steep growth in research on wireless networks
having attractive claims. Researchers are currently envisioning different
attractive properties of wireless systems such as the ability to
self-organize, self-configure, self-heal, self-manage and self-maintain.
Different wireless networks having the potential to offer cost-effective
home and enterprise access networking solutions are being researched.
Technologies such as Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs), WiFi, WiMax, Bluetooth,
802.20, 802.22 and software defined radio are gaining popularity. Even
though these technologies hold great promises for our future, there are
several research challenges that need to be addressed. Some of these
research challenges are attributed to the simulation, modeling and
characterization of these emerging wireless networks. The attractive
properties of these new network technologies make simulation and modeling
particularly challenging, where the existing tools and approaches are
marginally useful. This Special Issue aims to publish high quality research
papers relating to the recent advances in the simulation and mathematical
modeling of different emerging wireless network technologies, with a further
special focus on emerging wireless networks. Topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:

* Cellular wireless networks
* Broadband wireless access networks
* Wireless Internet
* Software defined radio
* Bluetooth technology
* Ultra-wide band radio
* Emerging Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks
* Wireless Mesh Networks
* IEEE 802.11/802.20/802.22
* Emerging wireless network security issues
* Wireless telemedicine and e-health
* Emerging issues in 3G and 4G wireless networks
* Emerging wireless network architecture
* Multimedia over emerging wireless networks
* Underwater sensor Networks
* Supplying power to the distributed wireless sensors
* Very low-powered sensors
* Cooperative wireless communications
* Multi-hop relay wireless communications
