Call For Papers

23rd International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD2014)
Varazdin, Croatia, September 2-4, 2014

Track 3: Information System Development in Ubiquitous Computing

Chaired by:
Stéphane Galland, Institut de Recherche sur les Transports, l’Énergie, et la Société, Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard, France
Blaž Rodič, Faculty of Information Studies, Slovenia
Markus Schatten, Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb, Croatia

Track description:
Computing is increasingly ubiquitous, with everyday items including smart-phones, cars, clothes and household appliances gaining increasingly sophisticated computing and communication capacities. With this developing Internet of things, it is just a matter of time before devices have to collaborate and compete with each other as well as users, in order to provide better services to mankind.

Only 30 years ago it was science fiction that over a billion of people will exchange billions of e-mails on a daily basis. Today a scenario of millions of collaborating agents embedded in gadgets and appliances, across various networks may also sound futuristic. However given the current rate of development in electronics, we will soon have to manage large scale MAS (LSMAS) where millions of agents exist, collaborate and compete with each other.

These embedded computer agents which are increasingly autonomous, distributed, smart and connected present major challanges and potential opportunities for information system development theory and practice. How can these technologies and methods be incorporated in information systems to enhance organizational capabilities? What tools, methods and architectures should be used? What are the implications on organizational design and society? It seems that various intelligent, agent-based, and model-driven approaches provide a good foundation to study these issues, but how should they be adapted to reflect current information system development methods? Are there good practices from industry? We hope that these and similar questions will be answered by papers in this track.

Extended versions of accepted papers will be published by Springer as a separate volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series (pending approval).

About the ISD Conference
The ISD Conference has a long tradition in hosting scientists and practitioners where they exchange ideas, experiences and knowledge in the field of Information Systems Development. During the last 26 years the conference took place in many countries, e.g. ISD1994 - Bled, Slovenia; ISD1999 - Boise, Idaho, USA, ISD2001 - London, UK; ISD2003 - Melbourne, Australia; ISD2005 - Karlstad, Sweden; ISD2007 - Galway, Ireland; ISD2009 - Nanchang, China; ISD2010 - Prague, Czech Republic; ISD2013 - Seville, Spain. For many years the conference has held an A rank in the well-known CORE Conference Rankings report.
The ISD conference has strong connections within the international information systems community and is now an Affiliated Conference of the Association for Information Systems (AIS).

About the ISD2014
The 23rd International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD2014) will be hosted by the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization and Informatics, Varazdin, Croatia from September 2-4, 2014.

Conference Theme: Transforming Organisations and Society through Information Systems
New trends in developing information systems emphasize organizational aspects of their development and social aspects of the final product. The influence of information systems and technologies on organizational structures, processes and people is paralleled by the impact of new organizational structures and social dynamics on information systems development, functionality and management. The ISD2014 Conference focuses on these mutual influences in order to promote research into methodological issues and ways in which information systems designers are transforming organizations and society. We therefore kindly invite you to share your knowledge and experience by submitting a paper to the 23rd ISD conference and make your contribution to this upcoming event.
