Advanced mathematical and computational models could play a significant role in examining the most effective patient-specific therapies. There is a pressing need to design and develop mathematical and computational strategies to harness cancer data in an accurate and efficient fashion. The purpose of the International Symposium on Mathematical and Computational Oncology (ISMCO) is to provide a common interdisciplinary forum for researchers, scientists, engineers and clinical oncologists throughout the world to present and discuss their latest research findings, ideas, developments and applications in mathematical and computational oncology. In particular, ISMCO aspires to enable the forging of stronger relationships among physical sciences, computer science, data science, engineering and oncology with the goal of developing new insights into the pathogenesis and treatment of malignancies. Authors are invited to submit either an abstract (up to three pages) or paper (up to 14 pages) for potential presentation (oral or poster) and publication in the symposium proceedings. The symposium will consist of invited and contributed presentations dealing with all aspects of mathematical and computational oncology. There will also be keynote presentations, tutorials, special tracks, panel discussions, and a poster session. We also invite work-in-progress papers, demos, experimental studies, open-source developments, and visionary papers. Each submissions accepted for oral or poster presentation will appear in the symposium proceedings to be published by Springer-Verlag in the prestigious Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. All full papers will also be submitted for indexing to PubMed Central. Springer-Verlag is also sponsoring a “best paper award. Authors of selected abstracts or papers accepted for presentation at ISMCO will also be invited to submit extended versions of their work for expedited review and possible publication in a special research topic on Advances in Mathematical and Computational Oncology in the Frontiers in Physiology (Computational Physiology and Medicine, Systems Biology), Frontiers in Genetics (Cancer Genetics, Systems Biology), Frontiers in Oncology (Cancer Genetics), Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences (Biological Modeling and Simulation), Frontiers in Medicine (Precision Medicine), Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (Systems Biology), and Frontiers in Robotics and AI (Computational Intelligence). Authors would have the opportunity to select which of the above journals/sections to submit their paper(s). All papers accepted for publication will receive a 10% discount of publication fees and will appear in a dedicated webpage under the common mathematical and computational oncology research topic. Tutorials should address the interests of various individuals in the field of mathematical and computational oncology including graduate students, researchers and educators from academia, and researchers and practitioners from industry and government. Special tracks will take place during the main dates of the symposium and are intended to stimulate in-depth discussions in special areas relevant to the symposium theme. All papers accepted for presentation in a special track will be published in the symposium proceedings. Review Process Both abstracts and papers submitted to ISMCO must not be currently under consideration for presentation/publication in another conference. Each submission will receive 2-3 blind reviews and should not contain names or other information revealing authors’ identity. Submissions will be reviewed with an emphasis on potential to contribute to the state of the art in the field. Selection criteria include accuracy and originality of ideas, clarity and significance of results, and presentation quality. The form of presentation (oral or poster) will be decided based on the reviews of each submission and recommendation of the program chairs and the steering committee. Attendance At least one author of each accepted paper must complete the symposium registration and present the paper at the symposium, in order for their paper to be included in the proceedings and symposium program. If none of the authors cannot attend the symposium and present their paper(s) due to unforeseen reasons, they should make arrangements with another ISMCO attendee to present their paper(s). Video or Skype presentations are not acceptable. |
