Call For Papers

The University of Warwick Economics Department, with support from the ESRC and DFID, is organizing an Interdisciplinary Workshop on “Aspirations and Poverty” to be held at the University of Warwick (Scarman House) on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th, December 2009

Although some presentations will be made by invited Keynote Speakers, we wish to invite the submission of all papers relevant to the topic of “Aspirations and Poverty”. Contributed papers may be in draft version. We expect a good mix of theoretical and applied work. Scholars from disciplines other than economics – e.g. psychology, philosophy, sociology and anthropology – are especially welcome to apply. We are evaluating the possibility that the invited papers and a selection of the submitted papers be revised for publication as an edited volume or as a special issue of an established journal.

Work that might be contributed includes explorations of the theory that underpins, and of the public policies that arise from, different approaches about:
*Poverty and learned helplessness
*Poverty and individual autonomy
*Poverty and aspirations failures
*Poverty and locus of control
*Poverty and role models
