Special Issue
User-centered design and user-adaptive systems

About the UAIS Journal
The UAIS Journal solicits original research contributions addressing the accessibility, usability and acceptability of Information Society Technologies by anyone, anywhere, at anytime, and through any media and device. Universal access refers to the systematic effort to proactively apply principles, methods and tools of universal design, in order to develop Information Society Technologies which are accessible and usable by all citizens.
The Journal's unique focus is on theoretical, methodological, and empirical research, of both technological and non-technological nature, that addresses equitable access and active participation of potentially all citizens in the Information Society.

For further information, please, refer to the "Aims and scope" section on the Website of the UAIS Journal.

Aims and scope of this special issue
A user-adaptive system changes to fit the wide range of characteristics a person could have in order to improve its usability while achieving acceptable levels of performance, efficiency and ease of use for the task at hand.
This type of system infers the goals and needs of users from multiple sources of information in terms of activity and interests. Research on user-adaptive systems should be addressed to identify new means for enriching the user experience through advances in automated reasoning, adaption and user interface design. User models are particularly important. To build user-adaptive systems, a combination of different disciplines is required, such as usability engineering, human-computer interaction, software engineering, system engineering, psychology, and sociology; each one providing its principles and techniques.

Main topics
This special issue will focus on research work on user-centered design; and the design, development, evaluation, and use of user-adaptive systems.
Authors of submissions should carefully explain how the work and results presented contribute to facilitating and promoting universal access.

Contributions are solicited in, but not limited to, the following topics:
• Fundamentals of design of user-adaptive systems.
• User modelling
• Intelligent user interfaces
• Adaptive Interfaces
• Psychological studies.
• Novel input devices and sensors.
• Frameworks and architectures for adaptive supporting platforms.
• User and interaction.
• Information access, filtering and management.
• Human-Computer Interaction design and visualization.
• Software engineering for user-adaptive systems.

Important dates
Deadline for submission of papers: March 15, 2015.
Notification of acceptance: june 15, 2015.
Expected publication date of the special issue: second half of 2015.

Authors should submit their manuscripts electronically as PDF files to the Guest Editor of the special issue, Reyes Juarez Ramirez (e-mail: reyesjua@uabc.edu.mx).
