Call For Papers

Big data is an emerging paradigm applied to datasets whose size is beyond the ability of commonly used computer software and hardware tools. Such datasets are often from various sources (Variety) yet unstructured such as social media, sensors, scientific applications, surveillance, video and image archives, Internet texts and documents, Internet search indexing, medical records, business transactions and web logs. They are of large size (Volume) with fast data in/out (Velocity) and need to be of high Value. Various technologies are being discussed to support the handling of big data such as massively parallel processing databases, scalable storage systems, cloud computing platforms, and MapReduce. In overall, innovative software architectures and systems play a key role in advanced big data processing. This special issue will focus on this challenging area. Original and unpublished high-quality research results are solicited to explore various challenging topics which include, but are not limited to:

Innovative software architecture for big data processing
Big data mining and analytics software systems
Big data visualization software systems
Innovative software development environments and tools for big data processing
Cloud, Software as a Service, Big data
Software security, privacy with big data
New programming models for big data processing
Software simulation and debugging environment for big data processing
Case study involving enterprise, business, and government service deployment on big data applications
Submission Guidelines

All submissions have to be prepared according to the Guide for Authors as published in the journal website at http://ees.elsevier.com/jss/. Authors should select “SI: Big Data SoftSys”, from the “Choose Article Type” pull-down menu during the submission process. All contributions must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. A submission extended from a previous conference version has to contain at least 30% new material. Authors are requested to attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles and a summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version.

Submission Deadline: 30 December 2013
