Call For Papers

The SSDBM international conference brings together scientific domain experts, database researchers, practitioners, and developers
for the presentation and exchange of current research results on concepts, tools, and techniques for scientific and statistical database applications.
The 26th SSDBM will provide a forum for original research contributions and practical system design, implementation and evaluation.
The rich program of the research track will be supplemented with invited talks, panel sessions, case-study papers, and demonstrations
of research prototypes and industrial systems.
Based on Denmark’s position as a world leader in wind energy, a special focus will be on data management for (renewable) energy.

SSDBM 2014 will continue the tradition of past SSDBM meetings in providing a stimulating environment to encourage discussion, fellowship
and exchange of ideas in all aspects of research related to scientific and statistical database management.

The Proceedings of SSDBM 2014 will be published in the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series.

Topics of Interest:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the following,
as they relate to scientific and statistical data management:
• Special topic: data management for renewable energy
• Case studies, data support, and applications; particularly for grand challenge science questions, e.g.,
sustainability, global climate change, energy, etc.
• Modeling and representation of data, metadata, ontologies, and processes, e.g., array-based data models
• Integration and exchange of data, including the federation and management of institutional data repositories
• Design, implementation, optimization of scientific workflows
• Cyberinfrastructure for scientific computing and eScience
• Data-intensive and cloud computing
• System architectures for scientific and statistical data management and analysis
• Querying of scientific data, including spatial, temporal, spatio-temporal, and streaming data
• Annotation and provenance of data
• Mining and analysis of large-scale datasets
• Security and privacy
• Visualization and exploration

Submission Guidelines:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We solicit papers describing original work relevant to the management of scientific and statistical data and not published or under review elsewhere.
SSDBM submissions can be of four kinds, in three tracks:

- RESEARCH PAPERS (LONG and SHORT): We solicit both full (long) papers (12 pages) and short papers (4 pages).
The former will be descriptions of complete technical work, while the latter will be descriptions of
interesting, innovative ideas, which nevertheless require more work to mature.
Generally, vision papers should also be submitted as short papers.
The program committe may also decide to accept some full papers as short papers.
Full papers will be given a presentation slot in the conference, while short papers will be presented in the form of posters.
All papers, regardless of size, will be given an entry in the conference proceedings.
- CASE STUDIES: We solicit full-length, 12-page papers, which describe applications of existing technologies to
interesting science problems, including a description of the encountered challenges, how they were overcome,
and the lessons learned. The selection criteria for this track will reflect this.
All papers in this track will be given an entry in the conference proceedings and a presentation slot
(perhaps with a shorter duration than for regular research papers).
- DEMO PAPERS: We solicit demonstration proposals (4 pages in length) which should provide the motivation for the
demonstrated concepts, the information about the technology and the system to be demonstrated (including a system
description, functionality and figures when applicable), and should state the significance of the contribution.
Selection criteria for the demonstration proposals evaluation include: the novelty, the technical advances and
challenges, and the overall practical attractiveness of the demonstrated system.
Demo papers will also be given an entry in the conference proceedings.
