Call For Papers

The 10th Annual Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Symposium (BIOT-2013) will be held at Brigham Young University on December 5th-6th, 2013.

Full papers from BIOT-2013 will be published in a special issue of BMC Bioinformatics, a leading, high-profile international Bioinformatics journal.

Major themes, areas, and suggested topics for BIOT-2013

We invite your original contributions in the general area of computational biology, bioinformatics, and biotechnology. For example, we solicit research and survey papers in genome sequencing and annotation, functional and computational genomics, transcriptomics, and the following areas of general interests. Other areas of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics are also welcome.

** Health Informatics

== Submissions ==

Submitted papers must report significant research results, findings, or advances within their own fields. Papers with focus on biological, biochemistry or biophysics discovery must concern research having a significant in silico component (such as the use of databases, software tools or novel technologies), and papers concentrating on computational techniques, algorithms, models or engineering solutions must have them validated on real biological data sets. Abstracts may report significant work in progress, for which full validation has not yet been performed. Since the symposium is geared toward a diverse audience of biologists, physicians, computer scientists, chemists, engineers, technology transfer professionals, graduate students, professors and researchers from the industry, the papers or abstracts must be presented in a lucid manner accessible to such individuals.

** Full paper submission

Full papers must be 6 to 10 pages in length, single-spaced, and in 2-column format. Full paper submissions will be peer reviewed. Please use the templates provided below or follow the instructions included. All accepted full papers presented at the conference will be published in the special issue, provided all obligations of the authors to the conference are met (specifically, author attendance at the conference, podium presentation of paper, paper revised in response to reviewer’s comments, and payment of publication charges).

The authors of accepted full papers will be required to produce a shorter 4 page extended abstract for publication in the conference proceedings.

Manuscripts shorter than 6 pages will be considered as abstracts (see Abstracts submission below).

Full papers not chosen for publication will be considered for abstracts. Full papers not chosen for oral presentation will be considered for posters.

** Abstract submission

Abstracts must be 2 to 3 pages in length, single-spaced, and in 2-column format. Abstracts will be peer reviewedand must include sufficient details for a fair assessment. Please use the templates provided below or follow the instructions included. All abstracts accepted for oral presentation will be printed in the Symposium proceedings, but will not be considered for publication in the special issue.

Abstracts not chosen for oral presentation will be considered for posters.

** Poster submission

For poster submissions, authors are required to submit a 500 word poster abstract for consideration by the program committee. Poster submissions will not be peer reviewed. Poster abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings but not the special issue.
