Call For Papers

The 5th International Conference on Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis (GEOBIA 2014) will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece from 21-23 May 2014. The event is organized by three remote sensing units of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, namely, the Lab of Forest Management and Remote Sensing (School of Forestry and Natural Environment), the Lab of GIS and Remote Sensing (School of Agriculture) and the Lab of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (Department of Survey Engineering) in collaboration with the Balkan Environment Center.

After the successful meetings held in Salzburg (2006), Calgary (2008), Ghent (2010), and Rio de Janeiro (2012), the forthcoming GEOBIA conference will present the latest developments related to the theory and concepts, methods and algorithms as well as applications of the emerging Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis.

We invite you to submit abstracts to the GEOBIA Conference on the following topics:
• Theory & concepts (Methodological issues & challenges, Geographic object-based classification & modeling, Multiscale & multitemporal interpretation strategies & representations, Comparative studies of object-based & pixel-based methods, Accuracy assessment, Integration with GIS)
• Methods & algorithms (Classification algorithms, Feature extraction methods, Change detection techniques, Multitemporal analysis, Image segmentation, Evaluation of segmentation methods, Application of machine learning methods, Visualization)
• Applications (Forest & natural ecosystems mapping & monitoring, Urban & environmental monitoring, Automated feature detection for specific targets, Disaster management, Semiautomated map updating, Heat isl & detection & monitoring, Health & social science related applications, Archeological applications, Applications of new data & sensor systems

Apart from oral and poster presentations the GEOBIA2014 Conference will include keynote lectures of invited speakers as well as technical workshops.

KEY DEADLINES
Key deadlines for your diary are:
• Submission of one page abstracts by 18 November 2013
• Notification of acceptance 15 January 2014
• Extended Illustrated Abstracts submitted by 14 April 2014
Selected papers presented during the workshop will be included in a special issue of an international peer-reviewed journal. Previous conferences resulted in the publication of special issues of the ASPRS (PE&RS), the International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation, and the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Full texts of the lectures given and the papers presented will be included on conference proceedings and published on a website.
