The foundations of science in the 21st century cannot be disparate academic disciplines whose adherents have lost sight of the purpose and meaning of their activities and their vision of the prospects for human development. Instead of science, they are engaged in corporate business, reinforcing the pseudoscientific views of the past and corrupting themselves with the permissiveness that stems from prejudice. Science, having entered the 21st century, is in a deep crisis, the way out of which presupposes the end of those traditions that caused it. Science must cease to be the mistress and servant of the masses and of voluntaristic political systems that have forced it to act contrary to the principles of rationality and scientificity. Science must overcome the false forms of its organization and its current disunity and fragmentation within these organizational forms, creating a unified and universal scientific knowledge. This synthesis is possible only if science recovers from the pathology of the split consciousness of its practitioners.
