Call for Papers:

Special Issue on Motives for Sustainable Development: Psychological and Cultural Perspectives (Volume 29 Number 2 September 2017)

The current discourses on development concede that the model of development which came out of the Washington consensus and led to the globalization of the world economy has deepened economic, social and political inequalities and is against sustainable development. Gandhi had anticipated this when he said that there was enough on this Earth for everyone’s need but not enough for everyone’s greed. Unfortunately, psychologists missed out on taking their cue from Gandhi to understand the conditions and factors that create greed. The special issue of PDS will focus on understanding psychological processes and factors that create conditions for anti-sustainable development and exploitation of the weak and are driven by morally unsound motives, such as greed and fear. We will consider for inclusion theoretical as well as empirical papers that use psychological and cultural perspectives. Papers that focus on approaches that modulate greed and emphasize wantlessness and regulation of desires across cultures in developing societies should be submitted before January 30, 2017.
