Call For Papers

Service Computing and Service Oriented Enterprise Systems in Design, Manufacturing and Supply Chain

Special Session at the 6th International Conference on Digital Enterprise Technology (DET 2009)
University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China
14-16 December 2009

Overview and Scope
The paradigm of service-oriented computing and its enterprise systems has been gaining increasingly interests recently. In 2002, IBM initiated the first Services Research Team. In 2004, IBM Research officially adopted Service Computing, later Service Science, as a research discipline which synergizes the efforts of multiple established disciplines like computer science, software engineering, IT, operation research, industrial engineering, management science, social science, etc. It has witnessed that the world is gradually evolving into a service based economy with a notable figure that around 70% of workforce is now working in the service sector in the US (2007). In response, the global industry is moving very fast to embrace the merits offered by service science. A variety of forward-looking research and applications have emerged, including for example, service oriented design coordination, service oriented Semantic Web service for business integration, service driven collaborative manufacturing execution platform, offshore manufacturing and supply chain management based on service oriented architecture (SOA), etc. Eventually, we are seeking to transform the whole business from goods production to service delivery paradigm. With such an ambition, this special session aims to provide a forum, for academics as well as industrial practitioners, to present and discuss innovative ideas, cutting-edge studies and real industry experience of research and application of service computing and the development of its enterprise systems particularly in design, manufacturing and supply chain areas. Interesting topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

? Foundations of service science, theory, complexity, modeling, etc
? Service computing, cloud/utility/Web computing, SOA
? Service oriented process integration and management
? Service design and planning
? Service quality and operation management
? Service oriented enterprise information systems
? Integration of SOA and Web Service and its applications
? Service mining in marketing, customer relationship management, business intelligence, etc
? Security, trust and privacy in enterprise services
? Case studies ?
