Special Issue on "Security in Cooperative Vehicular Networks", Security and Communication Networks (Wiley Online Library, ISSN: 1939-0114, SCIE indexed journal)

Recent technologies of wireless cooperative vehicular networks supporting Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications have become a cornerstone of Intelligent Transport Systems that will bring the promise of improved road safety and comfortable/infotainment driving environments with IEEE 802.11p.Wireless cooperative vehicular networking is one of the most interesting and active research topics, which is requiring vital efforts from both the industry and the academia. In particular, studies on secure broadcasting and routing for V2V and V2I communications, authenticating messages and vehicles, authorizing users to services, and location privacy of users have posed various challenges. These challenges require to develop applicable authentication approaches for messages and vehicles and authorization approaches for users as well as improved anonymous mechanisms for preventing the exposure of identity and location. Especially, IPv6 enabled V2V and V2I communications are requiring network level security mechanisms including secure binding between the permanent and temporary addresses of vehicles key distribution and location privacy with regard to IPv6 tunnel management, securing end-to-end communication, authentication in the IPv6 access network, etc.

This special issue is intended to disseminate the latest research results in emergent security issues, by providing a fresh snapshot of the current state-of-the-art in wireless cooperative vehicular networking. Especially, this special issue will not only focus on security mechanisms for IEEE 802.11p based V2V and V2I communications, but also address security mechanisms for IPv6 enabled V2V and V2I communications. Accordingly, this special issue will bring together the industry and academia working on security issues related to wireless cooperative vehicular networking and highlight future directions.
