Workshop Description

Integration of data from heterogeneous and distributed sources, and, at the same time, integration of software components, subsystems and systems, in order to achieve full interoperability, is one of the major challenges and research areas in software industry since decades, as well as the most significant IT cost driving factor. Methodologies, techniques and tools managing the growing heterogeneity and complexity under the pressure to reduce time-to-market and cost of integration solutions are asked all over the software market. As business (and technical) processes are the steering factor for all these integration issues, a joint perspective on data, software components, processes and the corresponding tools must be taken.

The modelling community addresses this topic since years by developing dedicated modelling languages, methodologies and tools: Model Driven Engineering (MDE) is on the advance everywhere. The reason for this success story is the promise of handling the increase of complexity within the software and its development process by raising the level of abstraction using models as information storage. In the past years tool vendors adapted the approach of using models as information storage of their applications utilizing the advantages of these technologies (e.g. model querying, model consistency, implicit interface, notification mechanisms). Other vendors now provide the possibility to import and export models. But still, out of different reasons some tool vendors do not respond to this trend. In this case 3rd party vendors provide adapters. All that shows, that MDE has made good progress, with regard to the information representation. Now that tool internal information becomes available as models, the problem of integration and distribution still exists, and is one of the next barriers to tackle on the way to an efficient and productive MDE environment.

The workshop in general addresses the area of software and application lifecycle management. Its main concern is the integration of tools and efficient distribution of information in development environments underlying with process based on MDE techniques such as model transformation, in order to have consistent and manageable solutions for the software & data integration challenges. The aim of the workshop is to join researchers and practitioners in the field of software and data integration, in conjunction with development tool and process integration.

Topics include, but are not limited to
* Models and Metamodels in Software and Data Integration
* Domain Specific Modeling Languages
* Integration/Composition of Software Components, Systems & Services
* Adaptation between meta modelling frameworks
* Patterns in Models and Metamodels
* Model and model element identification
* Distributed Modelling technologies (e.g. model querying)
* Data & Information Integration (Matching, Merging, Federation)
* Semantic Integration using Ontologies
* Standards for Software & Information Modeling
* Model-Based Software Evolution & Migration
* Domain Ontologies in Integration Scenarios
* Application Lifecycle Management - ALM
* Tool integration frameworks (e.g. Repositories, Interfaces, Adapters, Transport layer)
* Management of tool chains / Distributed tool chains
* Security and Access Control of models and tools
* Model Driven process integration
* Development process formalisation and automation
* Change and Requirements Management in development processes
* Model Based System Management
* Model Driven Enterprise Service Bus
* Business Processes and Software Integration in Concrete Applications
* Cross-Enterprise Business Integration/ Collaboration
* Problem scenarios, User requirements, Practice reports & Success stories
* Model-Based Testing Approaches / Test Generation
* Integrated Testing Platforms and Tools.

This year?s edition of the workshop encourages in particular the submission of papers addressing the model-based approaches towards complex domains like embedded systems engineering as a key domain in European industry, towards complex business application like in health care, production, logistics, and in the financial market. Furthermore, the workshop also addresses Model-based Testing solutions for integrated development environments. However, the scope of the workshop is not limited to this domain and all submission will be evaluated based on their general contribution to theory and practice of software, data, tool and process integration.

The workshop is open to anybody interested in increasing the efficiency in model-driven software engineering. Based on the experiences gained from earlier versions of the workshop (see below) a high number of participants especially from industry is expected.

Format of the Workshop
The workshop will comprise presentations of accepted papers, tool presentations, and a keynote from industry. Papers should be submitted in advance and will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee. All accepted papers will appear in the workshop proceedings. It is planned to publish bounded proceedings with ISBN. At least one author for each accepted paper must register for the workshop at the conference and present the paper. For each accepted paper a second reader will guide a discussion slot containing questions and critiques. This shall facilitate exchange of ideas and stimulate discussions among the workshop participant.

Paper Submission
Prospective authors are invited to submit papers for presentation in any of the areas listed above. Scientific papers, position papers and experience reports are welcome equally. Only papers in English will be accepted. Length of papers should be 6 pages minimum and must not exceed 12 pages formatted in LNCS format (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). Papers have to present original contributions not concurrently submitted elsewhere. Submission must be done with the easy-chair conference system: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mbsdpti2013.

Registration
Workshop participants must register with ECMFA 2013 registration system.

Background
The organizers participate in the BIZWARE project (www.bizware.org/) and the VARIES project (http://www.varies.eu/) which are European funded projects from ARTEMIS JOINT UNDERTAKING (JU).
